Weakland Book to be Released

Before the end of this month, former Milwaukee Archbishop Rembert Weakland's memoirs will be available for purchase: "A Pilgrim in a Pilgrim Church: Memoirs of a Catholic Archbishop." I am very excited to get a copy. Supposedly, he had been trying to get this book published for years, but most publishers turned him down because they wanted a greater focus on his sex scandal. While I am sure that that will be interesting to read, I am more interested in his take of the goings on at the Vatican during the 1960's, 70's, 80's, and 90's. The book is supposed to be pretty honest and specific when it comes to names - none of "a certain cardinal..." I think it will also be fascinating to see how he went from being in the Vatican's good graces as a friend of Paul VI, to the dog house as an "opponent" of John Paul II.

Weakland's one terribly bad decision has tarnished his career, but hopefully this book can provide some redemption and solace for those of us that fondly remember all the good that he has done for the Milwaukee Archdiocese.

There were far more than "one" bad decisions.

"There were far more than 'one' bad decisions."

For example, Archbishop Weakland Reassigned Abusive Priests, Catholic Wintertime In Milwaukee, November 17, 2008

I know almost nothing about Milwaukee. But am looking forward to Weakland book. I hope all understand that all the 'orthodox' Catholic scread today is nothing but a rather elaborate cover for a group of men with different sexual orientation than the majority. Nothing wrong with being a bit different, but why hide it?

I know almost nothingYou could have stopped there and retained your integrity, Jack.

Jack, I think you might just be on to something . . .

;)

Speaking of elaborate cover, Jack, you have here accused people, without basis, of sympathy for priest pedophiles. Now when the subject of a bishop who shuffled such priests around arises, you stick up for him.

Terrence, what are you trying to say??? I said I was looking forward to Weakland's book. So? What is that supposed to mean? Terrence, it's obvious ole Dad is losing it; but now you???? Jack

I'm merely recalling, Jack, that in earlier comment threads you would, without basis, say things like this. "Terrence, you have answered my question, I guess. Priest rapes 5 year old is just 'media bias.' Your answer, I assume." Yet when the subject is an archbishop who literally reassigned pedophile priests to new parishes, your agenda (or troll need to score points) takes precedence and you say nothing about it.

Terrence, could you be mixing me up with someone else? Because I don't know what you are talking about. Jack

Jack, I'm just quoting your March 4, 2008 12:35 PM comment to a post on this blog.

Terrence, I still can't follow you. Do I approve of priests' molesting children? No, I don't. Do you? The same about bishops covering up. That's bad. Did I ever say otherwise. Obviously you never look at my blog. Your imprecision is out of line with a legal mind, don't you think? Or do you 'represent'the 'nasty', sick ole man? Jack

You called it a screed to point out Archbishop Weakland reassigned known pedophiles, so it looks like you wouldn't mind such a bishop if you otherwise shared his agenda.

Terrence, come on, now. You are an attorney, I assume. I said nothing about Weakland and his reassigning priests. I'm kidding, but I think the new administration in Washington has you so out of sorts, you're beginning to sound paranoid. You don't want to wind up sharing a room with ole dad.:) Jack . Using anonymous because of change in Google.

You gave the impression you thought not addressing a topic specifically was significant when in past comments you said,
"However, your apparently blind devotion to the church leads you to defend Priest molesting children; or , at least, covering it up. Am I right?"
"You probably explain the rape of a 5 year old girl as biased media."
"Priest rapes 5 year old is just 'media bias.' Your answer, I assume."
"I assume you favor priest raping 5 year olds like your friend?"

Terrence, your logic is if you do not specifically comment you are saying something. Bad logic. I knew nothing about Weakland (opportunity for you, ole nasty)except what basically I have seen here. I have no idea of his "agenda." I think I can guess your agenda. Jack
