Vatican Clueless with Regards to Seminaries

In the wake of the sexual abuse scandal, the Vatican performed a visitation of all US seminaries. Their conclusion is that they are pretty healthy and that there has been improvement in their health because of the appointment of "rectors who are wise and faithful to the church." There has also been a decrease in instances of immorality, aka, homosexuality. Their recommendations include greater oversight of seminarians and a stronger focus on moral theology as the Catholic hierarchy does.

Clueless. If the Congregation for Catholic Education thinks that less homosexual acts and more "orthodox" moral theology will stop sexual abuse, they are on the wrong track. I'm pretty sure that no seminary ever taught that sexual abuse or child rape is okay. When they state that seminaries are more healthy, they mean more in line with Vatican thought; not that they are safer for kids.

Really?

You're saying that the perverts still dominate the seminaries, or what, exactly?

My fear is that the Vatican visitation of seminaries, some Bishops, some seminary personnel and some seminarians are striving to re-establish the closed, exclusive, excessively clerical system that helped to stunt the psycho-sexual development of seminarians/priests in the generations that gave us the sexual abuse crisis

dad29,

Clear up your wording. Are you saying the perverts DID dominate the seminaries, or what?

So you have a better answer? You quickly dismiss a thorough, detailed personal visitation of every single US seminary because it doesn't say what you want it to say. Unless you were on one of the visitation teams, you have absolutely no expertise or knowledge that the visitors had or the experts on the John Jay report, etc.

Hey Anon, Wake up! I know you love the Jay Report because it shows priest supposedly sexually abuse minors at about the level of the general population. Whoopee!! Priest are no more likely to abuse children than Missippii prison guards!!!Somehow I thought priest, as God's annointed representatives, might abuse less. I guess I just don't get it. Also the fact that over 80 percent of the victimes of priests were male, at least 3 times higher than in the general population tells us nothing??? In the church cases, were more boys than girls "available?" The fact that devout catholic youth from devout catholic families are less likely to report abuse than kids in the general population mean nothing?
Who did the recent seminary study? If they were clerics, there is a good chance homosexuals were invovled in cheking things out. I have nothinng against homosexual priests; but the Church does. Pedophiles are the issue. The Church wants to make homosexuality the issue to cover the "closet" cases.

Make that Mississippi.

I can't help but laugh that some are afraid of US Seminaries becoming more Orthodox and (gasp) Roman Catholic. It's precisely what US Seminaries need.

C.S., Are our seminaries become more Roman Catholic or more cover for Roman Catholic clerics. I ask again: Have you ever disagreed on ANY point with Holy Mother Church?

Catholic Soldier,
I don't know at whom your "some are afraid..." is aimed. It can not be my comment because the only adjetives that I used about seminarys are "closed, exclusive and excessively clerical"; unless Catholic Soldier thinks that closed, exclusive, excessively clerical are the eqivalent of "Orthodox" and "Roman Catholic"
